If not McCain, give me ObamaEric (Salt Lake City) Jan. 29, 2008
I lean right, but Senator Obama will make a great president. Someday. My first worry is that he could use a bit more foreign policy exposure, my second worry is that he's avoided a bit of political risk in Illinois and DC by skipping some votes, and my third worry is that if my favorite two candidates get their parties' nominations, Obama will win the general election. I would be smarter to push Clinton, because I think McCain can beat her for her negatives and moderation of positions, but Obama would bring the kind of straight discourse we need in the general election. I'm not sure that Obama as VP would be enough for Clinton to win against a GOPer who can get swing votes.
He will work towards consensus solutions, and already won a little skirmish with McCain a year and a half ago where McCain was a bit miffed that Obama beat him in a race for bipartisan legislation. The details escape me, but I felt a bit sorry for McCain being beat out by the freshman. He's liberal but realistic, and would represent all Americans, Dem GOP & other, where I think Edwards might not. And I'm definitely not talking about race there, just Edwards as advocate for one of the two Americas. He's made some gaffes in debates, but I'd rather have a candidate talks openly rather than always on guard.
I hope to edit for coherence later. That's the gist though, thanks.
